An option designed for people who not only want to sit in peace in nearby bars, have a good drink, listen to live music and soak up the atmosphere of the city, but also visit the interiors of Havana’s most important monuments and learn the secrets of making Cuban rum and cigars.

Information

Day 1

After breakfast, departure from Varadero towards Havana with a stop at Bacunayagua viewpoint. Meeting with a guide at El Morro fortress with a magnificent panorama of the city, then a visit to the cigar factory. Then we will check into casa particular and take a walk through Obispo street and places associated with Ernest Hemingway (El Floridita bar and Ambos Mundos hotel). After lunch at the local restaurant, we will walk around Habana Vieja (old town): Cathedral Square, Arms Square – the place where Havana was founded, with the oldest fortress in the city and the Governor’s Palace, Old Square with its beautiful colonial architecture and a small brewery (time for a beer or coffee). Then there will be a salsa class with Cuban instructors near Saint Francis Square. Return to your accommodation and the evening at your own disposal. Dinner with the Buena Vista Social Club concert or dinner and show at the famous Tropicana cabaret may be added to the itinerary (additional charge, transportation not included).

Day 2

After breakfast, check-out, meeting with your local guide and walk towards Central Park, where we will see the Grand Theatre and the oldest hotels on the island and visit the interior of the Capitol – a monumental building created as the seat of the Cuban parliament. Then a coco-taxi will take us for a small rum tasting with an explanation of its production process. A ride in an American convertible: Revolution Square, the historic Christopher Columbus Cemetery and the exclusive Miramar neighborhood with its Fifth Avenue full of embassies. Then Malecón – Havana’s emblematic seafront promenade and meeting place for its inhabitants, which will lead us to the legendary National Hotel, visited by celebrities, where we will have a drink. In the afternoon lunch at the local restaurant and time to buy souvenirs at Mercado de San José. Farewell to the guide and return to Varadero.

Notes

the order of the tour is subject to change depending on the availability of accommodation and opening days / hours of the facilities visited. Cigar factories in Cuba are closed on weekends and from 25/12–15/01 and from 23/07–19/08. Children are not allowed to visit the factory.
